Lauderhill Vice Mayor Richard Campbell arrested on domestic violence charges

LAUDERHILL, Fla. — Lauderhill Vice Mayor Richard Campbell was arrested Monday after a woman he identified as his former girlfriend accused him of domestic violence, according to Local 10 News. (local10.com)

The arrest comes as Campbell campaigns to retain his seat on the Lauderhill City Commission in the November 3 election.

Campbell, who was elected in 2022 and previously served on the City Commission from 2018 to 2020, denied wrongdoing and characterized the allegation as an effort to damage his campaign.

“It’s a relationship that for months she should have left the house,” Campbell told Local 10, referring to the woman as his ex-girlfriend. He also pointed to his record in the community and said he had never faced a similar accusation during his decades of public and professional life. (local10.com)

Campbell told the station he believes the case is a “smear campaign” intended to disrupt the upcoming election and said he remains confident in his campaign.

The Jamaican-American physical therapist has also worked in social work and education and is the founder of the Caribbean-American Soccer Association.

As of Monday evening, details surrounding the alleged incident remained limited. Local 10 reported that it had requested Campbell’s arrest report from the Lauderhill Police Department but had not yet received it. (local10.com)

Campbell said he intends to defend himself in Broward County court.

The allegations have not been proven in court, and Campbell is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
