Broward Detectives Search for Driver After Father of Five Killed in Pompano Beach Hit-and-Run

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. — Broward County detectives are searching for the driver responsible for a hit-and-run that killed a father of five whose body was later discovered near Fairview Park in Pompano Beach.

LaCurtis Knight was found dead Sunday morning, days after his family last heard from him. Investigators with the Broward Sheriff’s Office have not identified a suspect or any witnesses in the case. Knight had last communicated with his mother, Andrea Pinkney, on Thursday, telling her by text message that he was OK. She did not hear from him again.

Authorities are still working to determine exactly where Knight was struck and killed. Investigators are seeking surveillance footage and asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information about Knight’s movements before his death to come forward.

Pinkney told CBS News Miami that the circumstances surrounding her son’s death have left the family devastated. She said she believes her son may have been dragged before his body was left near the park. Knight worked installing awnings and was remembered by his mother as a hardworking man who regularly used his skills to help friends and relatives.

The investigation remains ongoing, with detectives attempting to identify the vehicle and driver involved.
