In the weeks ahead, The County Editorial Board will offer its recommendations in select federal, state and local races across South Florida.
We view an endorsement not as an instruction on how to vote, but as part of our responsibility to provide readers with an independent assessment of the candidates seeking positions of public trust.
Our endorsements are not made on the basis of political party. The Editorial Board includes a balance of perspectives, and our decisions will be guided by the qualifications and experience of the candidates, their records, judgment and integrity, their understanding of the office they seek, their positions on issues important to South Florida, and their demonstrated ability to serve the public effectively.
Candidates in races considered for endorsement will be invited to complete a questionnaire prepared by the Editorial Board. Participation is voluntary and available to all candidates in the race.
Endorsements are determined exclusively by the Editorial Board. Individual members may participate in some endorsement decisions and recuse themselves or decline to participate in others when appropriate.
The Board's deliberations are private. We do not disclose individual votes, positions or discussions, nor do we answer questions about the substance of our private deliberations. Our conclusions — and the reasoning behind them — will be presented in our published endorsements.
Those endorsements will be published by The County and distributed to our subscribers, email list and voters throughout South Florida.
Readers are free to agree or disagree with us. Our obligation is not to tell South Floridians what to think, but to do the work, examine the choices and tell our readers, clearly and independently, where we stand.
